Earlier this year, Sage announced its intention to sell their Nonprofit Solutions Division to a private equity firm. With that sale now complete, here are some of the details and what the change in ownership might mean for the future of your nonprofit Fund Accounting and Fundraising software.
Details of the Sale
Sage Nonprofit Solutions (Sage 100 Fund Accounting, Sage Fundraising 50, and a variety of other nonprofit software products) is now Abila, Inc. - an independent company (no longer part of Sage North America) that specializes in fund accounting software and technology solutions that help nonprofit organizations and government agencies.
While the ownership has changed, the Sage Nonprofit structure and management team was kept in place along with the cumulative knowledge and expertise in the nonprofit and governmental sectors. In fact Krista Endsley, Senior VP and General Manager of Sage Nonprofit Solutions for the past four years, is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Abila, Inc.

Benefits of the Sale
Last year as part of a huge rebranding effort, Sage identified the nonprofit division as a “noncore” asset. That label essentially meant that going forward, products like Sage Fund Accounting and Fundraising software were not going to be a primary focus for new investment and development.
But under the new ownership of Abila, the entire portfolio of nonprofit accounting software solutions will benefit from an infusion of new funds, new development, new ideas, and renewed focus. In addition, Abila, Inc. is now a company completely and solely dedicated to the nonprofit sector.

Looking to the Future
While there may be a bit of change in the short term, you can likely expect nothing but good things to come from this transition. If you're a former Sage Nonprofit Solutions customer, you should be excited about the opportunities that will come and benefits you’ll reap from a renewed focus on the technology that helps you run your nonprofit organization.
